Civil Rights Committee Chair

&

Government Sub-Committee Chair

Noor Abada

Noor Abada is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Human Rights and International Comparative Politics as stepping stone towards a career as an international human rights lawyer. Presently a member of Amnesty International and Public Relations Chair of African Student Association at the University of Kentucky, she is impassioned, frustrated, and optimistic about the future of the world and considers it her duty to advocate against all injustices.

Quoting Noor Abada, “Some issues that I hold very close to my heart are the Palestinian-israeli Conflict, the inequalities in American society within blacks and people of color vs. whites, and the humanitarian refugee crisis. I use my social media as well as the organizations I take part in as platforms to create awareness on these issues. As the civil rights chair I, along with the committee members will work within our Lexington community by taking civil rights violation cases to attorneys and having Know-Your-Rights workshops. Some elements that I aim to implement is to create forums and panels to force reflection within ourselves. More specifically, over what obligations we hold to maintain human rights liberties and over the amount of sensitivity we feel for the other, that is no other than the same. An essential aspect of my program is to learn/apply how we can break the cycle of historical links of oppression and discrimination of minorities within our Lexington community, as well as the larger national community to form a path of liberation and justice.”
